Reagan and Ladybug

If you’ve been in the horse industry for any length of time, then you’ve likely heard, or even been told directly, that horses are just a phase and that we’ll grow out of it. I’m still waiting to “grow out of it” as I’m sure many of you are also. I think it’s going to be a long wait. Upon meeting 16-year-old Reagan, it was clear to me that she’s the epitome of every horse girl in the nation who probably never will “grow out of it.”

She’s a horse girl to the bone and her main objective in life right now is to spend as much time as she can with 16-year-old Ladybug. This sweet Mustang got her name from the small, white speckles on her flank. Reagan ran Ladybug in the barrels at a few playdays before she was diagnosed with laminitis last August. Ladybug is clearly still spoiled beyond belief and the duo spends their time just enjoying each other’s company.

This was by far the easiest and most fun I had at a shoot all summer and there’s no doubt in my mind it’s because of the love I felt between Reagan and Ladybug. Not to mention, they were super at ease behind the camera and just enjoyed spending time together. I loved hearing the story about how Ladybug came into the family from Reagan’s mom:

“We frantically tried to find the right horse to give Reagan the best Christmas possible, but we didn’t think we’d find a suitable match. Everything fell into place and we purchased beautiful Ladybug two days before Christmas and somehow we kept it a secret!”

I was called in to help celebrate the bond Reagan and Ladybug have built together since that Christmas morning, but we were also creating a special birthday gift. There’s never a bad reason to book a photo shoot, but here are some good reasons to help you take the leap:

  1. Major milestone (Ex: anniversary, graduation, promotion, move, engagement, marriage, birth etc.)

  2. New purchase (You just bought your new equine partner and you’re ready to celebrate!)

  3. Old purchase (You’ve been with your equine partner for a while now and you’re looking to commemorate that relationship.)

  4. Sale (You’re looking to sell your horse and would like to stand out from the crowd with top notch photos that showcase their best features – don’t forget those action shots, they speak volumes!)

  5. It’s been awhile… (Maybe you can’t remember the last time you took photos, so why not include your favorite horse while you’re at it? And bring the whole family too!)
