Printing Questions Answered
Many clients will ask why I don’t let them print their pictures and why they can’t have the copyright. First let me explain what a copyright is, what a print release is, and what you can do with the images you purchase.
Copyright //
Simply put a copyright means that you own an image you created. The photographer who pushed the button owns the copyright and will own that copyright throughout their life and 25 years afterwards. I could go into all the details of this but its just important to know that I the photographer will always own the copyrights to any image I capture.
What Rights You Have //
When you purchase an image, you are agreeing to the terms of sale. This is lined out in our contract or at check out in the gallery. My terms are simply that you may share your digital images on social media (FB, IG, or your own website). You can order prints through the gallery OR you must purchase a release for printing outside of your gallery and publishing on other sites.
Print Release //
This is a limited license for you to print an image. The print releases I offer clients are for personal use only. Canvas, home décor, photo albums, etc. Usually a client will only want a release on one or two pictures. Buying a print release for the entire gallery will be a large expense and I don’t recommend it. A single image print release is $100.
So Why Can’t You Print //
In short…quality control. If I took some gorgeous pictures of you and you have them printed at the grocery store photo lab, the quality would not be an accurate representation of my brand. When you have company over, I don’t want you bragging to them about my abilities and they see that under-saturated canvas or those fuzzy prints. I have several professional labs that I partner with to produce the absolute highest quality artwork.

FAQ
What happens if i print them anyway? You’ll get a letter. You broke our contract and your image license. There will be a fine and our business relationship will be over. So just ask please.
Can I have invitations/holiday cards made? I offer cards but understand if you want to go with a design from a certain company. Please ask me first.
What if I want a blanket or custom item made? If it is an item I don’t offer, I can be flexible but just ask me first.
Can I put my pictures on a blog or another website? If it is your social account, blog, own website then you have permission to put the pictures there. If a third party blog, website, online publishing, etc. wants to use them, please contact me.
